Once, I sought answers from a physiotherapist about treating a child with cerebral palsy. Curious, I inquired how the approach would differ based on muscle tone—high or low, damaged nerves, spinal cord issues, or muscle problems. Shockingly, the response echoed the same protocol. A one-size-fits-all mentality emerged, raising concerns about potential harm masked as a cure. It underscored the importance of personalized care over generic promises.
In my quest for effective therapy, I encountered an occupational therapist claiming to cure children with Autism. To my surprise, she applied the same exercises to kids with diverse conditions. When questioned, she justified it as sensory processing enhancement. However, after a couple of years, I noticed irritable and obsessive behaviors in autistic children post-therapy. Unyielding and proud, she avoided learning from others, emphasizing her greatness. Skeptical, I requested long-term data, only to discover a biased narrative of success. It served as a cautionary tale against therapists driven by self-promotion and monetary gain.
Encountering a speech and language therapist, I was alarmed by their approach—referring hyperactive children to occupational therapy to enforce sitting during speech sessions. Witnessing children with marks from being physically restrained, I observed unsettling practices like pressing under balls, using swings, and forceful tongue manipulation. Shocked, I realized such methods were unheard of in the UK. Motivated to provide a better alternative, I founded Geniuslane to prioritize ethical and effective therapy practices.
